Hair transplantation in Mauritius has found one of its most emblematic figures in Dr Arthur Movsisyan, a surgeon specializing in hair restoration and co-founder of New Hair Graft alongside Dr Daoud Ingar.
For him, medicine is not merely a science: it is an art in the service of humanity, a way of contributing to the rebirth of patients who are often burdened by deep-rooted insecurities.

From a coin to an extraordinary Mauritian destiny
The story begins far from turquoise lagoons. In a mountainous Armenia, a teenager receives a simple coin brought back by his parents from a trip. On one side: a majestic deer and an unfamiliar word — “Mauritius”.
In an era without the internet, this distant island becomes a founding myth, an unattainable dream deeply anchored in the imagination of young Arthur Movsisyan.
Decades later, that dream would take shape. Living in Mauritius for more than 22 years and now a Mauritian citizen, Dr Movsisyan is today recognized as one of the world’s references in hair transplantation, with over 23 years of experience and 8,000 procedures performed.
A medical calling: healing the body, calming the mind
From an early age, Arthur Movsisyan was fascinated by the figure of the doctor. The family physician’s visits to his grandmother carried an almost mystical aura: sometimes, even before the examination began, she already felt better.
This formative scene sealed a childhood promise: to become a doctor and restore hope.
Yet another passion lived within him: art. Sculpture, drawing, working with materials… Medicine ultimately prevailed, but the artist never disappeared.
From reconstructive surgery to the art of aesthetic surgery
Graduating from the Yerevan State Medical University in 1991, Dr Movsisyan chose surgery in order to work with his hands.
At a time when aesthetic surgery was still taboo in Armenia, he already saw it as a natural extension of reconstructive medicine: restoring an image and relieving invisible suffering.
He specialized at the Postgraduate Medical Academy in Saint Petersburg, then practiced for nine years at the Institute of Research in Traumatology and Orthopedics, a Russian reference center for microsurgery and post-traumatic reconstruction.
Hair transplantation: a rapidly evolving discipline
In 2001, an opportunity changed the course of his career: hair transplantation, then a rapidly expanding field.
Trained in modern techniques, he joined an international group with clinics in Paris, Barcelona, and Marrakech. One year later, a destination became obvious: Mauritius — the island of the 50-cent coin.
His first visit in 2002 was a shock. One year later, he settled there with his family. Twenty-two years on, Mauritius has become his home port.
Explorer, creator, mentor: the man beyond the surgeon
Arthur Movsisyan is an explorer at heart. Mountains, hiking, diving, photography…
He shares his vision of the island through MovArt Photography (19,000 followers) and the YouTube channel Mauritius by MovArt, far removed from tourist clichés.
But this freedom is rooted in a personal history shaped by Armenian resilience: earthquakes, wars, shortages. His very name, Movsisyan, means “of the clan of Movses” — Moses, the guide.
Hair transplantation as an act of rebirth
Today, with more than 10 years of plastic surgery and 23 years of hair restoration experience, his vision is clear:
“We do not save lives, but we take part in their rebirth.”
He supports patients who hide beneath caps, young adults aged 18 to 30 affected by stress and modern dietary habits. His role goes far beyond the surgical act: listening, education, psychology.
Since 2008, he has been the sole Mauritian representative of the ISHRS (International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery) and continues to train in the United States and Europe.
The birth of New Hair Graft: putting people before business
In January 2024, he joined forces with Dr Daoud Ingar, the very first hair transplant specialist in Mauritius. Together, they founded New Hair Graft, based at C-Care Grand Baie.
The beginnings were modest. Facing sometimes aggressive competition, their strength was clear: never to consider a patient as a source of revenue, but as a person to be supported.
They democratized access to hair transplantation, introduced payment facilities, and broke away from the elitist image of the field.
Transmission and purpose: the legacy of Dr Arthur Movsisyan
At 60, Dr Movsisyan looks to the future. He trains future Mauritian hairdressers to recognize the early signs of hair-related pathologies.
In the evening, he prays, gives thanks, and cultivates a simple philosophy:
“My happiness is making others a little happier.”
His Mauritian destiny, initiated by a 50-cent coin, has ultimately revealed its true value:
a life dedicated to restoring the lives of others.
