Dr Daoud Ingar, hair surgeon at New Hair Graft Clinic, Mauritius.
From Entrepreneurship to Specialized Medicine
Twenty-five years ago, Dr Daoud Ingar settled in Mauritius—the homeland of his parents—with the ambition of developing Mado Parfums. It was a bold venture, and one that proved highly successful.
Today, a new chapter begins. Alongside Dr Arthur Movsisyan, Dr Ingar is now fully dedicated to establishing New Hair Graft as the new benchmark for hair transplantation in Mauritius.
Mado Parfums: A Family Venture That Became a National Success
For many years, Daoud Ingar’s image was inseparable from Mado Parfums, the Réunion-based brand he introduced to Mauritius in the early 2000s.
Under his leadership, the brand became the island’s leading high-end perfumery, with 14 retail outlets and steady expansion across the country.
More recently, Dr Ingar sold Mado Parfums to the GBH Group, marking a major turning point in his professional life.
“On an emotional level, the decision to part with Mado was extremely difficult. It represents our entire family history” he confides.
Founded in 1965 by his mother, Fatma Ingar, the first shop was a small haberdashery in Saint-Denis, Réunion. Through patience and vision, it later evolved into a perfumery.
A Conscious Choice to Return to the Essentials: Medicine
A graduate of Paris VII Faculty of Medicine and a certified general practitioner, Daoud Ingar never fully stepped away from medicine.
Alongside his executive responsibilities, he continued to practice at the Indian Ocean Center for Aesthetic Surgery, performing hair transplants between administrative duties.
Upon arriving in Mauritius in 1999, he was quickly approached by a hair transplant center.
“It worked out rather well, as I myself was beginning to experience hair loss” he recalls with a smile.
New Hair Graft: Building an Independent, High-Standard Clinic
One year ago, together with his colleague and close friend Arthur Movsisyan, an internationally renowned plastic surgeon, Dr Ingar embarked on a new independent medical venture.
They founded New Hair Graft, a hair transplant clinic hosted within C-Care Grand Baie, with the ambition of becoming a leader in a rapidly growing market.
The challenge is real:
increasing competition,
a growing number of market players,
aggressive marketing on social media,
a limited market size (approximately 60 transplants per month).
But Daoud Ingar has never shied away from challenges.
Resilience Forged Early: A Mastered Appetite for Risk
To understand this determination, one must look back to his teenage years.
Born with a heart malformation, he accepted open-heart surgery at the age of 16, at a time when his chances of survival were estimated at no more than 50%.
“I was tired of being short of breath with the slightest effort. I wanted to live a normal life.”
The operation, performed by Professor Charles Dubost, who would later become a pioneer of heart transplantation, was a success.
“If I was able to risk my life at 16, I can certainly open a new clinic at 73,” he says with a smile.
Experience: The True Added Value in Hair Transplantation
Today, New Hair Graft’s strength lies in the combined experience of its two founders:
Over 7,000 hair transplants performed by Dr Daoud Ingar
A comparable number by Dr Arthur Movsisyan
“You don’t become a hair transplant specialist overnight. It’s a craft that must be learned.”
Dr Ingar emphasizes several essential principles:
a sterile surgical environment,
a thorough medical diagnosis beforehand,
the ability to refuse a transplant when it is not indicated.
“Certain forms of alopecia should not be treated with transplantation. Only a physician can make that diagnosis.”
More Than a Technique: A Profound Psychological Impact
“A hair transplant can transform a patient—not only physically, but psychologically.”
Trained in Canada by Dr Bédard, a pioneer of gentle follicular micro-transplantation, Dr Ingar regularly encounters patients experiencing deep psychological distress due to hair loss.
“Some no longer dare to go out; they are ashamed of how others look at them. When they come back to see us a few months later, they are smiling again.”
It is this rebirth that gives true meaning to his commitment.
A Partnership Built on Trust and Medical Independence
The close relationship between Daoud Ingar and Arthur Movsisyan is at the heart of the New Hair Graft project.
“We understand each other, we complement one another, and we share the same convictions.”
Both physicians wanted to regain full control over their medical decisions:
“After all, we are the doctors. It was essential for us to finally do things our own way.”
A Promising First Year and a Long-Term Vision
After its first year of activity, satisfaction is evident.
The collaboration with C-Care Grand Baie has been validated, and patients quickly placed their trust in the clinic.
“We didn’t expect patients to follow us so quickly. It has exceeded our expectations.”
Conclusion: A Challenge Met with Confidence
At 73, Dr Daoud Ingar approaches this new chapter with the same energy that has driven his previous challenges.
His journey—bridging entrepreneurship, medicine, and human commitment—now finds complete coherence.
“Our only regret today is not having done it sooner.”
With New Hair Graft, he confirms one essential truth:
👉 Experience, medical ethics, and a human-centered approach remain the foundations of successful hair transplantation in Mauritius.
